CHL’s ‘Treefern Villas’ in Waterford West have officially opened, marking an important milestone in the delivery of right sized, long term housing for older Queenslanders. The development was officially opened by The Honourable Sam O’Connor MP, Queensland Minister for Housing and Public Works.
‘Treefern Villas’ provide 29 one-bedroom and two-bedroom homes for people on the social housing register and choosing to right size from larger social housing properties.
CHL Queensland State Manager Carly Bairstow said the development reflects CHL’s commitment to supporting people to live independently while remaining connected to their community.
“We know that having a home that is appropriately sized and designed for changing mobility and lifestyle needs can make a significant difference to people’s quality of life,” Bairstow said.
“These homes have been designed to support ageing‑in‑place, with single‑level layouts, accessible features and private outdoor spaces.
“Right-sizing is a critical part of our housing system. CHL is proud that this development gives people the opportunity to move into homes that better meet their needs, while allowing them to remain connected to their local community.”
‘Treefern Villas’ support ageing-in-place by keeping residents close to familiar streets, services and support networks, reducing the disruption often associated with moving. At the same time, it helps free up larger social housing for families who are waiting for suitable options, improving housing access in the Logan area.
The name of the property reflects Waterford West’s native plant life, with the treefern a part of the area’s natural character. It symbolises an unfurling and fresh start, capturing our vision for our residents where they can grow and thrive together.
