Community events empower residents to create connections and experiences that enable belonging.
CHL brought together residents, support agencies and the wider community in Flemington, Prahran and Brighton to celebrate Eid and Easter across our Ground Lease Model precincts.
CHL’s Victorian Community Development Manager, Kate Daddo, says these events continue to empower our residents across the Melbourne properties.
“At Flemington, our residents led our Eid celebration with 160 people coming together to enjoy a community meal, Arabic coffee, African drumming, balloon sculptures, face painting, henna painting and some fun outdoor activities for the kids,” says Daddo.
“Meanwhile in Brighton, 50 members of our community enjoyed a community barbeque, community garden activities, face painting, African drumming, henna, an Easter hunt for the children with prize giveaways. And equally in Prahran, our residents enjoyed similar activities, with another 50 guests joined by the Mayor for the City of Stonnington.”
The planning of the events is led by our residents through Events and Activities Groups, with the involvement of local organisations and support services, showcasing the collaborative and innovative nature of our social and affordable housing precincts.
Daddo says, “As part of our community development work, we are lucky to have incredible residents across our properties who provide the lived insight on what their community needs and enjoys. We are very grateful for the support of our resident groups to make these events a great experience for our communities.”
We extend our thanks to the resident-led Events and Activities Groups, the local artists and catering groups, Homes Victoria, Co-Health, Moonee Valley Council, Farnham Street Neighbourhood House, The Venny, Stonnington Toy Library, Prahran Wholelife Pharmacy and Wholefoods, Cultivating Communities, Stonnington Council and all of our residents who joined these celebrations.
