Our Ironbark Place development in Southport, Queensland, was led by CHL in partnership with the Queensland Government, our partners including RyallSmyth (architect), Paynters, Gaskell Planning Consultants and MCD Australia.

The name of the property has been inspired by the Ironbark tree, which is native tree to the Southport area and symbolises strength and resilience.

Our customers
Ironbark Place provides new homes for people aged over 55, including those with on the social housing register, public housing tenants seeking a right-sized home or those eligible for Specialist Disability Accommodation through the NDIS.

Our homes
The four-level property has 39 homes, including a mix of one- and two-bedroom apartments, specifically:

• 27 Gold Standard*

The property is close to public transport, employment hubs, community amenities, shopping centres and the beach. It has pathways to make it easy for our customers to connect to local amenities.

Our impact

Ironbark Place gives older Queenslanders a place to call home and the security to age well within their community. By offering residents the option to right-size into a home that suits them, it frees up larger homes for families who need them, extending the benefit well beyond the development itself.

The homes are built for accessibility, comfort and independence, while shared spaces including the community garden, rooftop terrace and barbeque area help residents connect, relax and feel part of a genuine community. It is a place designed to meet the needs of our customers now and into the future.

That impact has been recognised by the industry. In 2026, Ironbark Place won the Social Housing Project award at the Master Builders Queensland Housing & Construction Awards, Gold Coast Region.

*Homes accredited as part of the Liveable Housing Design Standard have design elements to enhance functionality, liveability, comfort and accessibility for older people, or people with high mobility needs. Gold Standard homes have 12 core design elements including generous dimensions for kitchen and bedroom access, lifts and other features. Platinum Standard homes have the highest levels of features across 15 design elements for those with higher mobility needs, with more generous dimensions, and differences in features such as flooring and high traffic areas.
