Kempsey community spirit celebrated in CHL office re-opening

The CHL team in Kempsey, NSW, has officially re-opened its refurbished office following the May 2025 floods, welcoming customers, partner organisations and team members.

The devastating floods in NSW’s north coast impacted around 5000 homes across the region. CHL’s office was one of more than 50 flood-impacted businesses in Kempsey. The re-opening event is a celebration of resilience, commitment and community spirit after a difficult time for the region, including displacement from homes for many and significant clean-up efforts.

While the Kempsey office was closed, CHL’s services continued to operate by transitioning to largely phone-based support and sharing spaces with partner organisations or working from other locations. In addition to normal operations, CHL provided immediate support as part of multi-agency Recovery Centres to assist displaced persons with their housing needs following the flood.

Megan Davidson, CHL’s NSW State Manager says, “Our team, just like the local community, were resilient, hard-working and focused on working together with our customers and partners to do what they could to contribute to recovery. Given members of our team were also directly impacted, I am very proud of how they kept focused on supporting the most vulnerable in our community and each other during a very challenging time.”

“In our re-furbished office, we’ve invested in creating a better space for our customers and our team. It’s more accessible and designed to help us deliver services more effectively, enable face-to-face connection as well as enable us to keep improving how we work.”
“Thank you to our customers for their patience, our contractors for their hard work, as well as our partners and other local community organisations, particularly YPSpace, for their support and collaboration as we recovered ourselves.”

The re-opening event was attended by CHL Board member John Yardley, CHL CEO Danny Dracic, CHL Chief People Officer Karen Conrades, partner organisations and team members.
