CHL officially opens Ironbark Place in Southport, QLD

CHL’s newly completed development ‘Ironbark Place’ in Southport, was officially opened today by The Hon. Sam O’Connor MP, Queensland Minister for Housing and Public Works at an event attended by CHL residents, team members, partners and community representatives.

Carly Bairstow, CHL’s Queensland State Manager, says: “We’re excited to officially open Ironbark Place and would like to thank all our partners and team members involved. We are very proud to work alongside the Queensland Government and our partners including RyallSmyth, Paynters, Gaskell Planning Consultants and MCD Australia to provide safe, secure and affordable places for people to call home and find a sense of community and belonging.”

The property provides 39 new homes for people aged over 55 on the social housing register or looking to downsize to a right-size home from public housing. ‘Ironbark Place’ has been designed to enable older residents to age in place, in addition to providing two Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) suitable for people eligible under the NDIS.

Bairstow adds: “Across the state, we have a number of developments like Ironbark Place, which are designed for older Queenslanders to age in place. We focus on integrating diverse housing types, such as social housing and SDA, alongside a diverse mix of residents, to create thriving and connected communities.

“By providing the option for residents to transfer from public housing and ‘right-size’ their homes, we can make larger homes available for families who need them. Our homes are designed to meet the needs of our residents now and into the future.”

The name has been inspired by the Ironbark tree which is native tree to the Southport area and symbolises strength and resilience.
The four-level property with lift access includes a mix of one- and two-bedroom apartments, with private patios or balconies, garden spaces and a rooftop terrace with barbeque facilities. Ironbark Place is also close to public transport, amenities and the beach, creating an accessible community focused on connection.
