Our values
Our culture is shaped by our values
Our culture is just as important as our vision and informs everything we do. It isn’t just about what we achieve, but how we achieve it.
People first
We put people at the centre, always. We treat everyone with care, respect and fairness, valuing every voice, role and lived experience.
Built on integrity
We do what’s right, even when it’s hard. We act with honesty, take ownership and earn trust through transparency and accountability.
Relentless in delivery
We show up with purpose and pride. We go the extra mile to deliver housing and services that change lives because what we do truly matters.
Brave enough to lead
We push boundaries to do better, for people, communities and the planet. We lead with bold ideas, open minds and the courage to keep evolving.

Career pathways and support for our people
We provide our people with the support and opportunities needed to grow and develop, professionally and personally.
This includes seeking regular feedback to create an organisation you want to work for, as well as investing in training and development programs to progress your career. We love celebrating our team too, with an employee awards program dedicated to those making a difference each year. Meet our people and learn more about their employee experiences at CHL.

Our Treasurer
Francis’s journey at CHL is driven by one powerful belief: safe, affordable housing is a fundamental human right.

Inclusion and belonging
Like the people and communities we serve, we know everyone is different. We value diversity in our workforce and welcome individuals from all backgrounds. Diversity is fundamental to how we work and is reflected across our organisation, driving innovative thinking and informed service delivery.
Everyone belongs at CHL.
Gender equality
We are proud to have people of all genders and backgrounds represented in all roles across the organisation. Our leadership team, including executives and directors, represent a strong gender balance from a wide range of backgrounds.
CHL is committed to creating a fair and equitable environment where all employees are valued for their contributions and compensated fairly, regardless of gender. In the end, we are all driven by the same purpose.
First Nations
At CHL, we acknowledge and respect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as Australia’s First Nations peoples. We also believe Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples should be heard and influential in the workplace.
This commitment to reconciliation is long-standing and deeply embedded in respectful partnership with First Nations communities, including through the establishment of Aboriginal Community Housing Limited (ACHL).
CALD communities
We want our team to reflect the culturally and linguistically diverse communities we serve and for people to feel comfortable being themselves at work. We welcome people from all backgrounds, religions and nationalities who want to work with us to make a difference.
Our professional development programs ensure cultural safety and inclusion training is available to all leaders and employees. We encourage people to contribute their unique perspectives, including the sharing of language, food, celebrations and even lived experience in our service design.
Disability inclusion
As a registered provider of specialist disability accommodation, CHL also aims to become an employer of choice for people with disability.
We acknowledge the value people with disability bring and we are committed to inclusive practices. We ensure our offices are accessible and promote and support flexibility in our work arrangements.
LGBTQIA+
We are proud to be recognised as an ACON Welcome Here Organisation. Through the leadership and dedication of team members from across the country, we actively foster safe, inclusive and supportive spaces for LGBTQIA+ people.
This commitment is embedded in our training, support and inclusive policies, helping us drive positive and lasting change across our workplaces and communities.
Benefits and wellbeing
Just as we care about our customers and communities, we also value our people who make it all possible.
We provide a variety of practical benefits that reflect what matters most to our team, including salary sacrifice options that can save you thousands, flexible working arrangements and wellbeing support.
Salary packaging
Save on tax and increase your take home pay by salary packaging. As a not-for-profit organisation, salary packaging arrangements can include many benefits and allow our team members to pay for certain expenses before Australian income tax is calculated.
Physical and mental wellbeing
We want our people to thrive. Our employee assistance program provides our team members access to free and confidential wellbeing support 24/7. We also provide a ‘Fitness Passport’ for our people to enjoy access to many fitness facilities across the country.
Flexible working
We support you to achieve a work-life balance by offering flexible and hybrid work arrangements where practicable, including flexible rostering practices, part-time roles and purchasing annual leave. For us, flexible working is about finding the right balance.
Paid Parental Leave
We understand the importance of being with your family in the early months of your newborn’s life. Eligible team members receive eight to 12 weeks of paid parental leave or two weeks paid partner leave, depending on years of service, in addition to the government’s 18 weeks paid parental leave.*
YOU Leave
Team members who have worked for six months or more are eligible for an extra day leave a year for their birthday, special occasion or just to spend doing whatever makes them happy.*
Salary continuance
We provide salary continuance insurance for eligible team members who are unable to work because of illness or injury. This gives our people financial security to help protect their wellbeing and livelihood when they need it most.*
