In 2004 CHL contacted local people in the development of appropriate housing designs for Timor Leste. Two years later these designs were applied to build 7 demonstration homes at project site in Tibar.
CHL also provided on-the-job training and work experience for 60 local vocational graduates and tradesmen. This experience has strengthened confidence that CHL can help improve housing standards as well as provide training and employment opportunities for the people of Timor-Leste on a larger scale.
This effort has been made possible by the generous encouragement and support of the Ministry of Labor and Community Reinsertion (MLCR) and its vocational training centre in Tibar (CNEFP), the Ministry of Education and its vocational training centre in Becora (Senai), the Ministry of Public Works, the International Labor Organization (ILO), the Alola Foundation, Australian Volunteers International as well as Tibar community.
