CHVL Homelessness team join hands to raise awareness during ‘Homelessness Week’

Community Housing Ltd in Victoria took part in two separate events in Eastern Metropolitan region and regional Gippsland to raise awareness during the National Homelessness Week.

The first event in Ringwood Lake was called ‘Homeward bound –A walk to end homelessness’ and was extremely successful with attendance by the Federal Member for Deakin and Assistant Minister to the Treasurer Michael Sukkar, Victorian Senator, Samantha Dunn; and Maroondah Councillors Kylie Spears; Rob Steane; Paul Macdonald; Mike Symon; and Whitehorse Councillor Prue Cutts.

All up there were around 80 people in attendance. Participants reported enjoying the day, participating in the walk, reading the scenarios as they walked and coming together to have some food and to discuss the important issue of homelessness in the eastern region.

It was fantastic to see the combined efforts of EHSSA members in creating a truly collaborative awareness raising event that is planned to be organised annually.   The event was well planned and executed by the following organisations;  Community Housing Limited, Anchor, Anglicare, Family Access Network, Maroondah City Council, Uniting Connections and Uniting Wesley.

In Gippsland CHVL was a co-sponsor of a one day forum called ‘Dual Dilemma’ held in Sale to highlight the links between homelessness and mental health. 90 people attended the forum with guest speakers from RMIT University, Chris Maylea, Council to Homeless Persons, Damien Paterson and VICSERV.
