Seventy two families have a new place to call their home in East Timor’s coastal village of Suai.
In November 2014, CHL Industries Ltd (CHLI), a subsidiary of Community Housing Ltd, was invited by East Timor’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MPRM) and Timor Gap, E.P (Technical Support for Ministries) to design and implement an innovative and ambitious program for the ‘construction of housing and infrastructure facilities for the support of the development of the Suai Airport – Tasi Mane’ project.
CHLI has delivered all the 72 houses in Lohorai Village of Suai and an additional 15 homes as part of MDG program. 40 of these homes were completed at the end of last year and had villagers move in soon after. The infrastructure in the project included reticulated water, independent sewer systems, electricity supply, roads, pathways, some of which are currently being completed.
The project has delivered quality housing whilst providing access to training, employment affordable housing and social welfare to the Lahorai community.
CHLI has been providing on the job training to the community in production and construction using mainly locally produced building materials. Over 180 villagers have so far been trained for which CHLI was presented with ‘Special Training Award’ at a special ceremony.
The villagers were invited to a special opening event earlier this year which was attended by the Minister.
