After the successful completion of the first phase of the new Jesuits Educational Centre in Liquisa, Timor Leste, CHL Industries (CHLI), part of CHL Group of companies has won the contact for the Construction of ‘Instituto de Educação Jesuita’ (IEJ) second phase worth USD 1million by the Society of Jesus in Timor (Fundação Companhia de Jesus em Timor Leste).
The construction of the first phase worth US$1.3 million included fifteen classrooms, residences for priests, church, chapel, canteen, training rooms etc.
Delighted at the announcement, Steve Bevington, Managing Director, CHL said, “CHLI continues to build Timor Leste’s economy and partnering with other like minded organisations to deliver quality community facilities for the Timorese people. CHLI is chosen as the trusted partner by the Society of Jesus in delivering this project not only because we have demonstrated our construction capability but more so as we have a complimentary approach to providing training to local workers and enabling them with skills to lead a good life.”
According to a letter sent by Quyen Vu, S.J., Coordinator of the IEJ Construction Project informing about the tender, “In awarding this contract to you (CHLI), we are confident that you (CHLI) will continue to deliver excellent quality of work and maintain a professional working relationship with us just as they did in Phase 1A. Your (CHLI) commitment to develop affordable and sustainable housing for the people of Timor Leste and to provide opportunities for local employment, training and livelihood for the people of this country ties closely with our own desire to contribute to the development of this country through education.”
Last year CHLI also completed an education and training centre called Institutu Mary MacKillop, worth US$600,000 for the Mary MacKillop East Timor Mission (MMIETS).
‘CHLI will continue to look for opportunities to develop partnerships with organisations such as the Society of Jesus and Mary MacKillop East Timor Mission to create facilities, training and employment opportunities for this young and promising nation”, says Steve.
