Centacare Port Macquarie held meetings with CHL in early 2015 regarding the building of an outdoor recreational area and planter boxes for the tenants of a block of 12 villas. It was found that there was a lack of social interaction among the tenants and that the building of the recreational area could be a great way of having a far better and happier community in the complex.

It was decided by both services to contact a local vocational college and also a local trainee service to see if they were interested in having some of their students assist in the building of the project.

This project then came to fruition in partnership with Centacare Housing Program, Community Housing Ltd, Newman Technical College and Mid Coast Connect.

This project promotes an inclusive and supportive community for clients, provides an appropriate service for clients to live comfortably and to maintain links with their communities. The purpose of the Table Street Community Development Project is to provide tenants a community recreational area such as meeting areas, wooden benches, pergolas and vegetable gardens in many complexes. The recreation area aims to improve social relationships among existing tenants of the Centacare Housing Program and to improve the physical environment of the Centacare Housing Complex. Centacare employs four [4] Newman students in a work placement capacity while CHL provides qualified supervisor for students.

Project is well underway and has already provided an excellent results for tenants.
