The most significant aspect that CHL brings is the organization’s enthusiasm to listen to what the local PNG people want – the housing designs are never forced upon the people.
PNG is Australia’s nearest neighbour – yet when it comes to the standard of entry level housing it could be on Mars.
I like working with CHL because the organization and staff bring a complexity of resources that no other organization in the world can bring to a developing nation. Experience, breadth of knowledge, world wide experience.
The most significant aspect that CHL brings is the organization’s enthusiasm to listen to what the local PNG people want – the housing designs are never forced upon the people. I can pick up the phone and speak with in-house architects, plus fellow builders and project managers – this is invaluable and very time & cost efficient. Also the Managing Director – Steve Bevington is always available for brainstorming and making critical decisions that sometimes need to be taken very quickly.
When I explain to NGO’s, large corporations and Government Departments I am constantly told “where have you guys been all this time?”
The journey is very complex and frustrating due to Government inefficiencies and the lack of suitable land that is affordable for Entry-Level housing – however with CHL’s experience in other developing nations, senior management at CHL has shown, greatly appreciated, patience and tenacity.
I am convinced that once the cost of Entry-Level housing is affordable for the majority of working people in PNG, this country will become a leader of the Pacific nations of the world. And CHL will be leading the way with this reformation.
