Newly appointed State Managers for Community Housing Ltd’s (CHL) operations, Dr Lucy Burgmann and Gary Storkey have already hit the ground running in their respective States of New South Wales and South Australia.
Prior to joining CHL, Gary has been instrumental in establishing Common Ground SA Ltd (a CHP for Homeless people), the Credit Ombudsman of Australia (regulating the Mortgage Brokers industry) and HomeStart Finance.
He was CEO of HomeStart Finance, a commercially managed Statutory Authority, for 20 years. HomeStart was one of the most successful government mortgage lenders in the country providing around 60,000 loans and over $300 million in shareholder value.
The organisation was considered a leader in Australia in product including pioneering Shared Equity in Australia, balanced scorecard reporting, human resource management and corporate governance. One of HomeStart’s successes was its innovative Nunga Loan, a product that significantly raised Aboriginal homed ownership levels in South Australia.

Gary has been previously involved in a number of NFP’s including being a board member of two housing providers. He remains involved in the education sector as a lecturer to MBA and BBus students.
