As a follow up to the story in our last edition the creative community project in CHL’s Woodville housing complex in Guidlford (NSW) is now complete and a launch is being planned in the first week of Janaury. Watch the trailer here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bp1yFZe_Vmk&feature=youtu.be.
In 2013 CHL was contacted by one of the leading advertising agencies to collaborate with them on a unique and creative community project that could bond and brighten a community in an amazing way. This project was called ‘As You Dreamt It’ Woodville Project.
12 residents from CHL’s Woodville – Guildford housing complex participated in the project. The project included collecting as many of these resident’s sleeping dreams as possible, then together with some of Australia’s leading photographers and artists, recreate and capture them. It was a once in a lifetime chance for those residents to work with some of the country’s best artists to capture and then share their dreams with those they live amongst.
Earlier this year a formal unveiling of the artworks was organised with the residents and their families. It was then hung around the neighbourhood. So for a short time, the complex become a gallery of the personal dreams of those residents.
ABC has also produced a documentary on this project which will be aired on January 8TH 2015 on ABC1 Artscape
The project presented an amazing opportunity for the community to come together in many ways. A wall mural was also painted on a centrally located wall in the complex incorporating local resident’s dreams and cultural icons by James Hancock, one of the famous mural artists in Australia.
If you would like to view the artworks, some of them have been published in the CHL 2014 Annual Report. Click here to view.
