NEW GOAL POSTS ERECTED AT RAVENSWOOD HEIGHTS

A unique partnership between Community Housing Ltd (CHL) and Rocherlea Football Club (RFC) has resulted in the fitting of the much awaited Goal Posts at the East Ravenswood Primary School now known as Ravenswood Heights.

In July this year CHL took over the tenancy and property management of approximately 1200 properties in the northern suburbs of Greater Launceston as part of the State government’s Better Housing Futures program.

Built in 1978, the primary school has never had permanent football goal posts erected in its 36 year history.

“In our consultation meetings with the school it was evident that there was a need to have these posts erected and both CHL and RFC worked in a collaborative partnership to make it happen as the school was struggling to get it done,” says Sharon McCauley, State Manager for Tasmania.

As part of CHL’s community development and engagement strategy, CHL has initiated the Aus-kick program at the school on Sunday mornings which is attended by over 40 kids.

“The erection of the goals will no doubt provide kids with an appropriate area to kick the football and enjoy physical activity but it will also assist the area in its bid to develop its own Junior Football Club”, says Sharon.

“We are delighted to see the whole community coming together to ensure this initiative is a success. Mr Barry Gaby from AFL Tasmania has provided the Goal Post Padding as part of their community development programs. A local construction company Brian Daley Building has provided both staff and equipment to ensure the job was done as per the highest standards.

This initiative will enable kids from the area to play and practice in a safe, convenient and appropriate environment”, says Sharon.

CHL is a national and international provider of affordable housing. Its vision is ‘A world without housing poverty’. CHL established operations in Tasmania in 2006 and currently has 14 staff in three offices in Launceston and Ulverstone managing 170 properties in the North West, Launceston, Perth and Hobart. CHL manages two facilities in Launceston and one in Ulverstone for group accommodation for people and youth at risk of homelessness. These facilities are managed in partnership with Anglicare Tasmania which provides support assistance to tenants.
