CHL’s has completed its first housing project in Chile comprising of 44 units in San Jose. The units are brand new and will be inaugurated with the new owners who have been living in local slum for many years.
Alongside, CHL has been involved in the reconstruction of houses damaged in the 2010 earthquake. In April 2010, CHL was awarded reconstruction of 28 historical units, about 250km south of Santiago in the centre of Chile. After a year of planning, the design has been concluded and this project is likely to commence construction in the next six months, subject to final approval from building authorities and the Heritage Council.
This project includes reconstruction of existing units those that are severely damaged and building new units, where the old houses had completely collapsed. Although the new units will have all the amenities of a modern house, they will integrate well in the original style of thatched – roofed clay buildings.
In Nancagua a Chilean city, CHL has been contacted to re-design 18 historic units within the city center. Four out of the 18 units were completely destroyed in the last earthquake. CHL is currently working on the drawings which will be a balance of history and contemporary design.
In Valparaíso, CHL is currently working on a 23 unit housing project, which is a renovation of a building from 1880 situated on a hill close to the center of town. The project is approved and is on pre-sale for the lowest income groups. Construction will commence as soon as five units are pre-sold.
