Community Housing Limited (CHL) has started the year on the front foot in the Coffs Harbour area with the opening of a new office strengthening its service delivery for its tenants. The new office was today opened by Andrew Fraser MP, member for Coffs Harbour amidst a gathering.
With the previous 12 months characterised by a strong partnership with State Government, ongoing stock growth, an update maintenance program for existing social housing tenants and additional support services, CHL is making a significant impact in the Coffs Harbour area. The successful transfer of 163 tenanted public housing properties into CHL’s portfolio in 2011, supported by $1.95 million in maintenance upgrades, means the organisation now manages 375 properties with a total 384 tenancies throughout the area.
“Coffs Harbour is a major hub for CHL in NSW, with around 30% of our total NSW stock located in the Coffs Harbour area. The establishment of the new office will strengthen our service delivery and improve service outcomes for our tenants from Grafton to Armidale back to Macksville. We have a well staffed office which will focus on improving the quality of service provided in the existing programs, meeting tenant needs and linking them with support services.” says Steve Bevington, CHL’s Managing Director.
One of the services operating out of the CHL office is the Coffs Harbour Accommodation Brokerage and Housing Service. It is for people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless in the Coffs Harbour area. This service is auspiced by CHL and funded by Community Services NSW providing short term crises accommodation, free showers, advocacy and referrals. It is also operating the ‘Rough Sleeper Project’ which aims at breaking the homeless cycle for those who are most vulnerable. It involves a close working collaboration with ten agencies.
In opening the new office, Andrew Fraser, the Member for Coffs Harbour, reported being pleased with the progress being made in the provision of affordable housing for Coffs Harbour locals and said he wanted to see that growth continue.
“The relocation of the office to a new, centrally located shop front premises provides an easily accessible location which enhances community Housing Ltd’s commitment to being accessible to clients and builds a greater profile and helps sustain the local community,” Mr. ‘Fraser said.
“CHL operates under very clear guidelines as a not-for-profit provider of housing services and we are committed to providing a responsive and efficient service to meet tenant needs. In addition to the new office, further good news is that we are currently preparing to add another 12 properties to the Coffs Harbour portfolio by June 30,” says Mr. Bevington.
The new office is located at 1/19 Park Avenue, Coffs Harbour.
