National community housing provider Community Housing Limited (CHL) has won the Housing Industry Association’s Victorian State title for ‘Best Special Purpose Housing Project’ for the second time.
The award was won for CHL’s ten unit development in Howard Street, Sale which was opened in June, and was the result of a partnership with local community group Five Star Project Inc. supported by the Federal Government’s Nation Building Stimulus Funding package.
The development consists of a combination of one and two bedroom apartments plus a common space for social support. Tenancies for six of the units will be nominated by Five Star, who will focus on people living with a disability. CHL will manage the remaining four tenancies that focus on assisting low income households.
The award was made on the basis of good design, high quality of construction, and the functionality of the development based on the tenant group.
“These awards are a tremendous credit to our Design and Construction Division and recognise the expertise the team has developed in constructing quality housing that’s affordable. Their talents have been recognised yet again for an outstanding development in Sale,” says CHL’s Managing Director Steve Bevington.
“The Design & Construction team at CHL are consistently coming up with interesting and innovative designs that are quality built. It’s pleasing to be delivering a good product all round, and we know tenants appreciate it too.”
